Shopping for Birthday gifts!

Olivia received a generous amount of gifts & gift cards for her birthday, (the thank you letters are in the mail)! In the mean time, I wanted to make sure that we went out this weekend and bought a few items that she really needed. As you know I love great quality clothing at a reasonable price, who doesn't ? So two of the stores that I love are BabyGap & Gymboree. Everything I purchased was on SALE and I also used coupons. That's just how I shop now-a-days.

Cake Smash. . .Photo's Coming Soon!!

Today I spent the entire day setting up for Olivia's cake smash.
This takes A ALOT of work and requires assistance!! There are no re-shoots once the shoot starts so everything just needs to be in order in advance. Here is a peek into the shoot that we did:

As you can see from her face, i don't think she really enjoyed it, I think she was a bit upset that she was getting dirty!

For all the Moms that have a bit of photography skills and wanna do this shoot yourself, it's really simple and you don't need much:

  • a cake
  • a cute onsie or outfit
  • towels
  • great lighting (natural light is best)
  • a camera
  • and a baby!
Please share your shoots with me if you DIY! I wanna see!!

If your in the NY tri-state area and would like a hire a photographer for this shoot, contact me!

Olivia's First Birthday - Photobooth

I love the idea of a photobooth at an event. People love taking pictures and  posing and being silly in front of the camera, so it almost always works out. I bought a beautiful piece of fabric from a local fabric store with great prices for just $4/yd and hung it on the wall. I bought a dry erase board for about $6 at target and had everyone right a birthday wish to the birthday girl!

I used my DSLR to photograph the pics, but a point n shoot will do too with the right lighting.

Happy First Birthday Olivia!!

Today Olivia is ONE!!
12 Months old!!

I woke up at 5:00 am just to whisper happy birthday in her ear, kiss her on the cheek (we still co-sleep) and hug her tight while shedding a few tears in my bed, the very bed she was born in!

We had just celebrated her birthday last night with family and friends in our home, and what a turn out we had! Olivia actually fell asleep during the party which I just knew knew would happen, but she really enjoyed herself and we were more than happy to entertain our guest in our home!

But today, her actually Birth day, we spent it together as a family and took Olivia to the Queens County Farm. in Glen Oaks, NY.  Olivia had a great time stumbling through the pumpkin patches and rolling in the hay!

Rotten Bananas ? Make Banana Bread Muffins!

I've been up since 4:30 am. Not because this is my normal wake up time, but my body just told me "get out of bed, you had enough sleep". It's funny, because if I had to go to work, I'd be sleeping til 8:01 and already 1 minute late for work.

There is so much to do in a day when you're a SAHM. People really don't believe this, but all I have to say is "Come, spend a day with me, your job starts before everyone wakes, and it ends right when everyone is asleep"

Ok, so what am I doing at this time ? Well i have these bananas sitting on my counter top that need to be turned into bread before it goes bad. Rakiem will really appreciate a fresh baked slice of banana bread for breakfast, and Olivia will have it for snack time today.

this pic matches my layout, totally a coincidence!
I'm off to bake!

Banana Bread Recipe (recipe here)

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

METHOD

No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl.

Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla.

Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in.
Add the flour last, mix.
Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan.
Bake for 1 hour. (I did muffins, hoping that  they'd bake faster)

Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and serve.
Here it is, took about 30 minutes in the muffin pan :)
